The Hopi Foundation (HF) is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization incorporated in 1987 in the State of Arizona and is located on the Hopi Reservation.

For 25 years we have been encouraging and restoring a culture of self-sufficiency and proactive community participation through our mission of Helping People Help Themselves. The Hopi name Lomasumi'nangwtukwsiwmani, signifies the process of furthering unity of aspiration blossoming into full maturity over time.

We believe in attending to the community in which we live and in the skills of our people. The Foundation serves a population of 12,000 Hopi across twelve villages on the Hopi Reservation and other Indian tribes and indigenous societies.

The Hopi Foundation supports local grassroots community initiatives through sponsorship with the intent of growing capacity so that one day the programs can stand on their own.

Among the Hopi, to give (maqa) has been at the heart of our society and social compact since time immemorial. The honor of giving means respecting and honoring both the giver and the recipient. In Hopi culture, giving is reciprocal, binding individuals and groups to each other and the spiritual realm. Work is a gift based on kinship and gender. Hopi people build their homes with sumi'nangwa, all together, and nami'nangwa, mutual concern for others welfare. The very cornerstone of Hopi society is the exchange of mutually beneficial gifts, and relationships reconfigured by those exchanges. Gifts are communications in a language of social belonging.
